Position Representative Director
Profile Tao began investing at a young age. Even before starting high school, Tao correctly predicted the proliferation of mobile websites and started a successful mobile web development business. In high school, Tao established the predecessor to SYG, which focused on IT businesses. As an individual investor, Tao is active in venture firms and secondary markets. He also serves as an executive officer at other companies such as a bio-venture business, leveraging the experience he has gained at SYG.
Hajime Hirose

Profile Hajime began his career at Microsoft’s global headquarters in Washington. Later, he relocated to China to help establish a Microsoft R&D center in Shanghai. Successfully completing that project, Hajime entered the management team of VanceInfo around the time of VanceInfo’s listing on the New York Stock Exchange. After launching a branch of VanceInfo in the United Kingdom, Hajime returned to Japan. Hajime then gained experience at a venture firm before joining SYG. Most recently, Hajime has established BuzzElement Sdn. Bhd in Malaysia. He currently serves as BuzzElement’s CEO.
Kenko Nagai

Position Outside Director / Investment department, Nissay Capital Co., Ltd.
Profile After graduation from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Kenko entered the public underwriting department of Daiwa Securities SMBC (currently Daiwa Securities). At Daiwa, Kenko was responsible for major buyout funds, both in Japan and overseas, as a financial advisor for the telecommunications and food sectors. Later Kenko worked in the management planning department at Toyota Financial Services, where he was tasked with capital strategy, creating business strategy proposals, and dealing with domestic and overseas ratings agencies for 32 overseas group companies. Kenko then moved to Nissay Capital, where he manages investments, primarily in the IT and clean tech sectors, in Nissay’s investment department. Kenko joined the SYG board of directors in April 2012.
Tetsuya Nakata

Tetsuya Nakata

Position Tax advisor / Outside Director / Head, Tetsuya Nakata Tax Preparation Office
Profile Tetsuya received his MBA from Seikei University. He acquired consulting experience in taxation, accounting, business management, and personnel management while working for the Tokyo Accounting & Tax General Office in an assistant tax preparation role. Tetsuya later founded the Tetsuya Nakata Tax Preparation Office, which he continues to run to this day, providing tax and accounting support to venture firms. He also invests in many companies himself and participates in their management. Tetsuya is highly regarded by companies in many sectors, including IT, real estate, personnel, education, food service, sports, and medicine.

John Y. Sasaki

Position United States legal advisor (registered foreign attorney in Japan and licensed attorney in California) / head of JSV Foreign Law Office
Profile John joined the California bar after graduation from Boalt Hall Law School of the University of California, Berkeley. As the principal of JSV Foreign Law Office, John provides legal advice primarily to domestic and foreign companies, venture capital firms, and financial institutions for transactions involving venture capital financing, M&A, cross-border fund investments, joint ventures, technology licenses, and capital markets. John also has experience with matters relating to M&A, intellectual property licensing and strategy, technology licensing, corporate finance, labor, corporate and contract law, and litigation support within the internal legal affairs department of several public Japanese companies.
Katsumasa Okano

Profile Mr. Okano worked in the taxation administration for thirty years, twenty-one of which he spent working for the investigation division of the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau (doing everything from parts one to four of investigations). In August, 2010, he established his own tax accounting business. In the investigation division, he was mainly responsible for investigations pertaining to international taxation, such as tax haven tax systems, transfer price tax systems, and foreign corporation taxation.
Daisaku Kaneda

Daisaku Kaneda

Position Tax advisor / Head, Kaneda Daisaku Tax Preparation Office
Profile After graduating from the law faculty of Rikkyo University, he passed the National Tax Bureau Admissions Test, and began work at the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau. He worked mainly in the area of corporate tax auditing as part of the Tokyo Regional Tax Office and Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau's Large Enterprise Examination Department. Additionally, he involved himself in organizational operations and defense as part of the management team in the Examination Department, and National Tax Tribunal, landing the titles of section chief of general affairs, and deputy head in direct succession. During his temporary stint at the Legislative Bureau of the House of Representatives, while familiarizing himself with parliamentary acts, and the ins and outs of the Diet, he worked to assist the drafting of the Financial Reconstruction Commission Establishment Bill(now the Financial Services Agency). After over 30 years of experience in federal taxation he established his own agency in 2015, which he operates to this day.
